AOAC SEA Section

In 2019, a few members of AOAC International from the Southeast Asia region submitted a proposal to establish a regional section of AOAC at the AOAC 133rd Annual Meeting in Denver, Colorado. The section would serve as an effective vehicle to drive the improvement of analytical competence and capabilities as well as improving the standards and performance of food testing labs in this region – be it private, research, academic, or government.

After elaboration of the initial proposal, In Mar 2020, a petition to charter the Southeast Asia Section of AOAC International was submitted to AOAC International with endorsement by thirty AOAC International members from Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam.

In June 2021, the formation of a new Southeast Asia section of AOAC International was approved by the AOAC Board of Directors. The new section, AOAC Southeast Asia Section, encompasses 10 countries: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam. Chartering of the section was presented during the Opening Session and Awards Ceremony at the 135th AOAC Annual meeting in Boston, Massachusetts, by AOAC’s Executive Director Dave Schmidt.

is to convene government, industry and academia to develop and validate standards, methods and technologies, and ensure the safety and integrity of foods and other products that impact public health.
